Modern Elders Caring for Others
Modern Elders Caring for Others (MECO) is organized by and for alumni of the Modern Elder Academy (MEA, https://www.modernelderacademy.com/ and https://www.meawisdom.com/). As an MEA affinity and support group, MECO organically emerged from MEA alumni interested in supporting resilience for ourselves, each other, and those we are caring for.
We meet via Zoom every other week on Mondays at 4PM (Pacific) / 7PM (Eastern) / 12AM (UK). Our meetings typically run about an hour and 15 minutes.
Many of us have personal transition stories as we prepare for and navigate “middlescence” (e.g., we may be transitioning jobs, preparing for retirement, working toward being “free nesters” as our children get older, and shifting from doing to being). In this transition period, many of us also confront a new role, caring for our elders or unexpectedly a terminally ill spouse or loved one. We find ourselves –sometimes suddenly– grappling with emotional-filled work and navigating confounding logistics. Why does it seem no one else has ever tread this path before?
MECO participants work to hold a safe space so that we can share, learn, grow, and (hopefully) find some grace as we manage complex family dynamics and what may be triggering experiences. We see this as an opportunity to gain practical tools for cultivating resilience through honest conversations with a group of caring MEA friends.
